Seattle Pacific University Library, Reading Room
Each year, Image awards a one-year writing and teaching fellowship to a postgraduate writer working to complete his or her first full-length fiction, creative nonfiction, or poetry manuscript.
As part of her fellowship year, Dyana Herron is giving a short lecture, "Laughing in the Dark: Using Humor to Write About (Seriously) Tough Topics." Her lecture is a part of the Creative Conversations lecture series at the Seattle Pacific University Library.
During this Creative Conversations talk, Dyana will discuss her project—which explores the experience of having a family member sentenced to federal prison—while focusing on both the advantages and potential pitfalls of using humor to approach painful or delicate material.
The lecture will take place in the SPU Library Reading Room. Here is a map of the SPU campus. (The library is #14 on the map.)
Events at Image
Each year, Image holds events locally, nationally, and internationally that showcase outstanding visual artists and writers and bring communities together to explore the role of art and faith in our culture. Through workshops, readings, concerts, lectures, and seminars, we invite attendees to experience art that renews the soul, work alongside some of the finest contemporary artists, and build camaraderie with others interested in art, faith, and mystery.
