Drawing From Life Course Materials List
Instructor: Barry Moser
- No. 2 pencils (a handful of inexpensive, wood-clinched ones).
- Two or three white pencils. Prismacolor is a good brand. Don’t get really hard or really soft pencils or China markers. Stay medium.
- An X-Acto knife or its equivalent
- Hand held pencil sharpener. Make sure you get one that fits your pencils.
- Pencil pointer (i.e., a sandpaper pad from an art supply store, or a sheet of plain 250 grit sandpaper cut into small pieces about 1 x 3 inches. Size is not critical in the least)
- Markers, various sizes: thin, extra thin, medium. I recommend the ones made by Staedtler.
- A pad of tracing paper, 9 x 12 (NOTE: all measurements of paper and pads are approximate).
- Drawing paper, a pad each of 9 x 12 and 18 x 24.
- Pad of newsprint, 18 x 24.
- Two pieces of foam core board, one piece 10 x 14, or thereabouts, and one piece 20 x 26, or thereabouts. (These will serve as inexpensive and lightweight drawing boards and need to be at least two inches large than your paper sizes).
- Small roll of half inch white artist’s tape (not masking tape).
- Several sheets (or a 9 x 12 pad) of gray, muted slate blue, or terra cotta charcoal paper. Pads will have several colors and that would be grand. Any color will do so long as it is fairly dark and not bright.
- 12” stiff ruler, or thereabouts.
- Compass for drawing circles.
