Special Note: Though several course and all on-campus housing options are currently full, we expect several spaces to open in April after scholarship recipients are chosen. We encourage you to sign up as a commuter, and/or add your name to the waitlist for your first class and housing choices. (The waitlist is free without a registration.) There's always the possibility that a spot will open up!

Schedule
The Workshop will take place at St. John's College, located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, about three miles from downtown Santa Fe, New Mexico. The conference begins on the afternoon of Sunday, July 27. Registration will run from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., followed by supper, introductory remarks, and a welcome reception. Workshops begin on Monday morning, July 28, and will be held each morning (except Thursday) through Saturday, from 8:45-11:45 a.m. Thursday is a free day during the day, closing with evening worship; you'll be free to explore the area or work independently. All other afternoons and evenings will feature readings, lectures, and concerts by faculty members. There will also be a nightly ecumenical worship service. The final plenary session is on Saturday night; the final meal is a 10:30 brunch on Sunday morning. Check out time is at 10 a.m. on Sunday. See the tentative schedule here.
Check-in
Once you arrive on campus, you can pick up your keys, information packets, and meal cards at the Glen registration table located outside the Great Hall, which is on the second floor of the Peterson Student Center. If you arrive after 5 p.m., you can check in at the campus switchboard, which is located on the first floor of the Peterson Student Center. See the campus map.
Transportation
The nearest major airport is in Albuquerque, about one hour south of the St. John's campus. Several car rental agencies are located at the airport. Alternatively, the Sandia Shuttle Express can take you from the airport to the campus for $25 each way, or $45 for both ways if you make an advance registration with a credit card. Call 1-888-775-5696 or visit www.sandiashuttle.com to check schedules or make reservations. Sandia recommends making advance reservations, because the shuttles do fill up on weekends. The shuttle ride is about an hour and a half, but Sandia recommends allowing 2 hours to be on the safe side when making departure reservations. As shuttles arrive at St. John's, Image staffers will be available to help those with extra luggage. When booking your return flight out of Albuquerque on August 3, keep in mind that the earliest shuttle will get you to the airport at 7:30 am.
Manuscripts
Part of each writing workshop (Poetry, Fiction, Spiritual Writing, and Playwriting/Screenwriting) is discussion of each participant's work. If you have registered for a writing workshop (with the exception of the Playwriting class), we ask that you submit 1 copy of the exact pages that you wish to have discussed in the workshop so that they arrive at the Image office by July 1, AND email the same pages to jmullins@imagejournal.org. We will send you all your classmates' manuscripts by email in July, to print and bring with you to the workshop. Those in the Playwriting workshop will mail their manuscripts to the Image office and print and bring copies of their own manuscripts to hand out in class.
Your manuscript must arrive at our office by July 1; please allow 5-7 days for the mail. As a courtesy to your teacher and classmates, please observe the page limits and spacing requirements listed in the individual course descriptions.
Art Supplies
If you register for Mixed Media, Drawing from Life, or Photography, a supply list will be sent with your confirmation letter. If you'd like to do your shopping locally, there's a good art supply store on Cerrillos Road called Artisans. Call (505) 954-4179 for inventory and store hours. Artisans is a 15-minute drive from campus.
Silent Auction
The Silent Auction is back! We'll hold a week-long auction of faculty and student work to help raise money for Image. It's a way for Glen participants to show off their talent and do a good deed at the same time. (Though Image looks like a million bucks, we don't have a million bucks—or some big backer who pays all our bills. In fact, we rely on small gifts for our very survival.) Last year we raised over $8,000 at the Glen auctions, giving the journal a much-needed boost.
If you have work you'd like to donate to be auctioned, please bring it along. In any case we encourage you to come prepared to bid! Just keep in mind that whatever you donate needs to be relatively small and portable. And be sure to keep your eye on the tables—new items and bids appear throughout the week.
Campus Facilities
Your contact info at St. John's: You'll have a phone in your room, though not voicemail—you'll find out what your direct extension is when you arrive. In case of emergency, the Conference Services Office can be contacted at 505-984-6024, and we'll get the message to you.
Linens: One towel, sheets, and two blankets are provided. If you tend to feel chilly at night, you might want to bring your winter PJs or an extra blanket. There are coin-operated laundry facilities on campus. Hangers are in short supply, so you may want to bring your own.
Dorms: St. John's is a living, breathing college campus. Most single dorm rooms are located next to the dorms housing current students. Quiet hours are observed between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. The week of the Glen is the final week of the summer semester, and some students may be spreading their wings a bit in celebration. St. John's students are polite and well-mannered nearly all the time, but if you foresee problems with rooming across a courtyard from them, we suggest that you choose the suites or the double or triple dorm rooms in the upper part of campus, both student-free zones. Please call us if you'd like to make this change.
Computers: A username and password can be purchased from conference services once you're on campus. This password will give you access to a lab where you can print, check email, and use the internet Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Each room does have an Ethernet port where you can use a laptop with an Ethernet card; you'll need to bring your own Ethernet cable or purchase one at the bookstore. Wireless service will also be available in certain locations on campus.
More info: To find out more about the St. John's Campus, go to www.stjohnscollege.edu or http://conferenceservices.sjcsf.edu/cnfservgw.htm. If you have questions about the campus facilities (as opposed to about the Glen Workshop itself), you can call St. John's Conference Services at (505) 984-6024 or email them at confserv@sjcsf.edu.
Staying Off Campus
You may choose to register as a commuter and stay off campus at a hotel, B&B, or campsite. For a list of local options, visit www.santafe.org. If you decide to stay off campus, we strongly recommend that you bring or rent a car, since there aren't places to stay within walking distance of campus. Lots of reasonable hotels and motels are on Cerillos Road, a 10 or 15-minute drive from campus. The heart of Santa Fe, the Plaza, is also a 10 or 15-minute drive from campus; there are several lovely historic hotels downtown.
Meals
Meals are served cafeteria-style. Breakfast begins each day except Sunday at 7:30 a.m., lunch at 11:30, and supper at 5:00 p.m. There are several entrée options at each meal, including vegetarian choices, as well as a salad bar, and a station where you can cook different items to order, like omelettes, with all ingredients listed. Coffee is not available until the cafeteria opens; if you need your buzz before then—and some of us do—you'll need to bring your own supplies and coffee maker. The final plenary session is on Saturday night; the final meal is a 10:30 brunch on Sunday morning. Check out time is 10 a.m. on Sunday. Your registration fees include all meals if you're staying on campus, or lunches only if you've registered as a commuter. Commuters or outside guests can buy additional meals at the cafeteria with cash. Breakfast is $4.75; lunch and dinner are $6.75.
Weather, Elevation, and What to Pack
Dress is casual. Santa Fe has a high desert climate at an elevation of 7,000 feet, and the temperature averages a high of 81° during the day and a low of 51° at night in August. It's not terribly hot, but because of elevation and the dry air, it's important to drink LOTS of water. We will probably get a few spates of rain during the week, so you can pack rain gear or else run fast and dry out once you get inside, which is what we do. In any case, comfortable shoes are a must. St. John's College is built on a gently sloping hillside in the foothills on the edge of Santa Fe. Most of the dorms (singles, doubles, and triples) are about fifty yards up the hill from the classrooms, which are about fifty yards up the hill from the main campus building where readings and meals are (see the campus map). The suites are about two-hundred yards up a short road—if walking is difficult for you, we can offer rides in the golf cart. At 7,000-feet elevation, lowlanders (like the Seattle-based Image staff) may experience shortness of breath, appetite loss or gain, lower alcohol-tolerance, and in a few cases, nausea or indigestion, especially on the first two days in Santa Fe. But the views alone make up for it.
Book Table
As usual, Warren Farha will bring the Eighth Day Books book table, where you'll be able to buy books by the faculty as well as everything else that's fit to read. Though Warren himself would never say so, it's our belief that Eighth Day is the Bookstore of Heaven. Check out www.eighthdaybooks.com.
Open Slides/Open Mic
We'll host open slide and open mic sessions—scheduling is yet to be determined. This is a great opportunity to share your art, writing, songs, or other performance art with others, but space is limited, so come prepared and be sure to sign up early. Time slots are just 5 minutes to allow space for as many as possible. There will also be space in the main hall for visual arts students to show their finished projects later in the week.

The Glen Workshop is held in collaboration with
