Thought about attending the Glen Workshop? Cursed the economic fate that prevented you from going? We are offering several partial scholarships for visual artists, writers, and songwriters.
Special Note: You do not need to send a $100 deposit to apply for a scholarship. You may apply to any class, even if it's closed for registration (see the course descriptions page).
However, if you wish to guarantee a spot in a workshop, even if you do not win a scholarship, you must register for an available workshop and pay the $100 deposit.
Kate Campbell Songwriting Scholarship
One partial scholarship will be awarded to a songwriter, thanks to singer-songwriter Kate Campbell. Kate's music blends a variety of American styles-Gospel, soul, R&B, Celtic music-drawing on her love for community, the traditions of the Baptist church in Mississippi, and on her artistry as a storyteller. She served as Glen musician-in-residence in 2003.
Chrysostom Society
Several partial scholarships are available to writers thanks to a contribution from the Chrysostom Society. The Chrysostom Society, an outgrowth of the Milton Center, now housed with Image on the SPU campus, is a group of Christian writers that meets once a year. Members gather both for fellowship and to reflect on ways to promote excellence in writing and publishing by Christians. Members of the Society include such well-known Christian authors as Madeleine L'Engle, Eugene Peterson, Luci Shaw, and Philip Yancey.
City in Focus Scholarship for Canadians
One partial scholarship including tuition, room and board, and a small book and fee allowance will be awarded to a Canadian artist attending the Glen for the first time, for the class of his or her choice, thanks to City in Focus (Christian Leaders Foundation), of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Master's Artist
One partial scholarship is available to a writer thanks to a grant from The Master's Artist, a writing collective that keeps up a lively on-line blog of musings, insights and opinions about "striving for excellence" in writing while "glorifying God's kingdom and edifying the Body of Christ."
More scholarships to be posted soon! All writers, visual artists, and songwriters are invited to apply.
To apply for a scholarship, send either a manuscript of no more than ten pages in length; slides (digital or regular) or good color copies of your visual art; or a CD of three original songs, preferably recent works; plus a cover letter explaining your need, and a completed registration form stating your class and housing preference to:
