Ron Hansen is a contributor to Image and the author of Mariette in Ecstasy, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (adapted for the 2007 film starring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck), Hitler's Niece, Atticus (a finalist for the National Book Award) and other books. He holds the Gerard Manley Hopkins chair at Santa Clara University, where he teaches literature, film, and creative writing. He also serves as a permanent deacon for the Diocese of San Jose. He is widely regarded as one of the leading Catholic writers in America. His newest novel, Exile, came out last spring from Farrar Straus & Giroux.
Born in Omaha, Nebraska, Hansen was educated at Creighton University, the University of Iowa’s Writers Workshop, and Stanford University, where he held a Wallace Stegner Creative Writing Fellowship. Hansen received the 2010 Levertov Award from IMAGE.
