Religion & the Arts Organizations

Arts Centre Group — premier British Christian arts organization, with publications, meetings, and a
number of other programs.
Duke Initiatives in Theology and Art — Led by theologian/musician Jeremy Begbie, this group has undertaken a number of fascinating projects.
Imago — Canadian organization promoting the artistic development of Christians in the arts.
International Arts Movement — founded by Mako Fujimura, based in New York and Tokyo - an "arts
organization committed to cultural and spiritual renewal." 
The Legacy — a nonprofit organization in Wichita working with at-risk youth through music and art.


Religion & Culture Organizations

The Cornerstone Forum — Run by scholar Gil Bailie, "concerned with today’s cultural and spiritual
crisis and with recovering the Christian moral and intellectual resources required to assess this crisis"


Print Magazines/Journals

America — a weekly Catholic magazine that focuses on book reviews, news, and opinion.
Books and Culture — published by Christianity Today but modeled on The New York Review of Books -
contains primarily book reviews and essays about current cultural issues.
Christian Century — now over a century old, CC "examines issues of politics and culture as well as
theology, and…pays attention to the challenges of faith that arise in our everyday lives."
Commonweal — a Catholic opinion journal that discusses politics, ethics, and a host of other topics in
many different styles.
First Things — a thoughtful journal that attempts to "advance a religiously informed public philosophy
for the ordering of society."
Prism — thoughtful magazine published by Evangelicals for Social Action.
Radix Magazine —"encourages evangelism, discipleship, and renewal of the Christian mind" through its
exploration of contemporary art, literature and media.
Sojourners Magazine — "a Christian ministry whose mission is to proclaim and practice the biblical call
to integrate spiritual renewal and social justice."


Online Magazines/Journals

Godspy — Catholic and yet ecumenical: a cutting-edge cultural/spiritual site that goes beyond the sterile left-right political battles within the church
The Matthew House Project — "Seeking to develop a place in which the intersections of faith and culture can be explored."
The New Pantagruel — A creatively irreverent online journal whose contributors care about the tradition of Christian humanism
Oldspeak — "dedicated to publishing interviews, articles, and commentary on subjects often overlooked
by the mainstream media."
The Lark — Parody news site that pokes incisive fun at mainline Christian culture, from youth missions
to church picnics.


Audio Journal

Mars Hill Audio Journal — a terrific audiotape series interviewing authors of new books in all areas of
culture, the arts, social science, and theology.


Graduate Programs

Fuller Theological Seminary: Brehm Center — a program for church leaders to focus on incorporating art,
literature, music, and other media into the experience of God.
Graduate Theological Union - MA — consortium of theological schools that provides graduate degrees in
Art and Religion; this is their M.A. program page.
Graduate Theological Union - Ph.D. — This is the GTU page for the Ph.D. program in History of Art
and Religion.
Regent College: Masters of Christian Studies —"explore[s] the integration of faith and life by developing
skills for interpreting scripture."
Yale Institute of Sacred Music, Worship, and the Arts — offers a variety of programs not only in music
but in liturgy, literature, and other disciplines.
