Poetry

Audio: Read by the author.

The white sinew under bark
wet through with water suckled
from its dark round of earth, is torn,
not in weakness, but in tender
resolution to give way, be broken
by the weight of blossom,
by the fluttering violet it was given,
a clutch of amethysts to bear
before the sun for us this little while.
