Center for Religious Humanism
November 18, 2017
Over the past two years the board of Image has worked with founder and editor Greg Wolfe on a new strategic plan that will deepen and extend the reach of our mission. As of January 2018, Greg will step down as Executive Director, freeing him to focus on his roles as writer, editor, and publisher, and strengthening his presence as a distinct and compelling voice for art and faith in the public square.
Therefore, the Center for Religious Humanism—the institutional home of Image—seeks a new Executive Director to advance its work of demonstrating the continued vitality and diversity of contemporary art and literature that engage with the religious traditions of western culture.
Founded in 1989 by Wolfe, the Center for Religious Humanism fosters both personal and cultural renewal through a revival of the Judeo-Christian imagination—deepening the cultural engagement of diverse religious communities while caring for and challenging artists and writers of faith to high aesthetic standards.
The Center encompasses not only the flagship Image journal, but also a suite of other channels and programs that help identify, nurture, connect and advocate for art and artists that exemplify how the deepest questions of our existence intersect with what poet Albert Goldbarth calls the “greasy doorknobs and salty tearducts” of our everyday lives.
Whether on the printed pages of Image; online via website, blog, podcast, or newsletter; or through face-to-face workshops, retreats, readings, and academic fellowships, the Center already supports a warm and active community of creative explorers and supporters of the arts-and-faith nexus.
We desire an Executive Director to bring significant organizational, management, and development capacity to the Center, leveraging the excellence of Greg and our other current leadership and staff to increase the effectiveness of existing relationships and projects, while pursuing new initiatives especially via collaboration and partnership.
Candidates should see details of the position and submit a resume and cover letter detailing past engagement and future vision for creative cultural renewal via our Submittable portal:
