THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
a YA writing workshop with Daniel Nayeri
A book at the right moment can change the course of a young reader’s life. In this workshop we discuss writing for the most difficult audience in the world, the teenage reader—at once the expert of the world they know, and insatiable explorer of the world they don’t. And it is up to the author to provide a clear picture of both. Books for young readers become the most beloved classics that kindle a lifelong passion for stories.
Centered on writing for a young audience, this workshop will explore telling stories of all kinds. Participants will work to develop a project throughout the week—from the idea stage, to character studies, plot outline, writing samples, world building, and dialogue. Each session, we will consider the work of a standout author in the field as well as read and discuss one another’s writing.
