Lynn Aldrich

Lynn Aldrich received her B.A. in English Literature at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, and her M.F.A. at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. From 1987-1998 she was an instructor in the Fine Arts Department of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Her artwork is part of the collections of The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and Biola University in La Mirada, CA. She has had many solo exhibitions throughout the world, most recently at the Sandroni Rey Gallery in Venice, CA, Art Affairs Gallery in Amsterdam, and Christenrose Gallery in New York City. Her numerous group exhibitions have included Site Specifics '98 at the

Islip Art Museum in East Islip, NY, My Favorite Femmes at the Jan Baum Gallery in Los Angeles, and The Garden Show at the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art in Portland, OR. She has received a City of Los Angeles Individual Artist Fellowship Award and the Art Here and Now Los Angeles County Museum of Art purchase award. Her work has been discussed and reviewed in such publications as The Los Angeles Times, Artweek, Art / Text, World Sculpture News, The New York Times, L.A. Weekly, Sculpture, and Artforum.

Lynn Aldrich's Current Projects

"Currently I am cutting back on teaching commitments in order to concentrate on producing more work, including some large-scale sculpture. I continue to think about the interface among various influences—ordinary life and the natural world, cultural and social codes, science and the acquisition of knowledge, the reality of our triune creator God.

Once the concepts are in place, construction processes are often low-tech and require a slow, labor-intensive repetition. Right now, I am making several new pieces out of accumulated garden hoses, lamp shades, and plastic patio cover panels. Work will be exhibited in the fall of 1999 at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, and the Irvine Fine Arts Center in Irvine, CA, and in the winter of 2000, at the Tryon Center for Visual Art in Charlotte, NC. I am contributing an essay on contemporary sculpture to a book on art and Incarnation, edited by Dr. Jeremy Begbie, planned for publication in fall, 2000."
