Image Intensive June 2023 visual

Image Intensive:

Creative Nonfiction with Beth Kephart

A three-week craft workshop on creative nonfiction
June 12 - 29

We are pleased to announce another Image Intensive, an opportunity to dive deeper into your craft, guided by faculty from our community who understand the unique impulses and challenges facing artists at the intersection of art and faith.

  • Week 1: Disassembled by Awe
  • Week 2: Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
  • Week 3: Moving into Darkness to Understand Beauty.

In a small group setting capped at 12 students, participants will experience:

  • Three Zoom sessions (two 60-minute sessions and one 90-minute session) each week
  • Opportunities to discuss a short reading or film each week with your small cohort. These readings will showcase the art and faith tradition, including pillars such as Annie Dillard as well a new generation including Molly McCully Brown.
  • Generative writing opportunities, calling for brief responses to given prompts that will then be shared with your cohort
  • Individual manuscripts (one per participant of up to 3,000 words) will be reviewed in-depth in your cohort, with participants also receiving "track changes" comments from Kephart.

This workshop is for nonfiction writers of all levels who wish to explore the wonder, doubt, darkness, and beauty that shape us. If you are yearning for a compassionate writing community, seeking to learn more about yourself, hoping for a thorough review of your pages, or wishing for line-editing guidance, this workshop is for you.
