Presence + Wonder: Contemplative Art Making

Beauty was not simply something to behold; it was something one could do."
—Toni Morrison

Instructions for living a life:
Pay attention.
Be astonished.
Tell about it.
—Mary Oliver, "Sometimes"

Join Lanecia for an immersive workshop that invites you to slow down, observe deeply, and create from a place of presence and authenticity. Through contemplative photography, slow reading of poetry, abstract meditative painting, and mixed media collage, you'll develop a personal visual vocabulary and create works that make visible what is within you. This workshop emphasizes process over product, curiosity over perfection, offering a restorative creative experience where mindfulness and art-making beautifully intersect. We will have conversations about contemplative art and learn practices that you can take home with you along with the work you create in the workshop.  No prior art experience necessary—all materials provided except camera/smartphone. Perfect for anyone seeking a gentle, reflective approach to creativity.

Preparation
You will be provided with short essays to ponder before you arrive.

Supplies
All materials provided except camera/smartphone. Course does include a $200 supply fee.

Who is best suited for this class?
This class is designed for those longing for a restorative creative experience where mindfulness and art-making beautifully intersect. No prior visual art experience is required.
