An invitation to poetry with Abram Van Engen
A three-week in-depth seminar on poetry
September 3-19
Tuesdays & Thursdays, 12-1 pm Eastern (Note: The September 3 class will last an extra 30 minutes.)
We are pleased to announce our first Image Seminar, an opportunity to dive deeper into a special topic guided by faculty from our community who understand the unique impulses and challenges facing artists and explorers at the intersection of art and faith.
In a small-group setting capped at 24 students, participants will experience:
- Two Zoom sessions each week for 3 weeks.
- In-depth instruction from a renowned teacher. Attendees will explore Word Made Fresh: An Invitation to Poetry for the Church with its author, Abram Van Engen.
- Exploration of the value of art and literature and discussion of multiple pieces and types of poetry. You'll explore works from the pages of Image journal as well as those featured in Word Made Fresh.
- A copy of Word Made Fresh is included in your registration cost.
This workshop is for all those curious about art and faith and the value of poetry in addressing meaningful and eternal questions. If you are yearning for a compassionate community, seeking to learn more about yourself, hoping for a thorough discussion of art, or wishing for a supportive place to grow in your knowledge, this seminar is for you.

About the Instructor
About Abram Van Engen
Abram Van Engen is Stanley Elkin Professor in the Humanities and chair of the English Department at Washington University in St. Louis. His other books include Sympathetic Puritans and City on a Hill: A History of American Exceptionalism. Passionate about teaching poetry to a wider audience, he also cohosts the podcast Poetry for All with Joanne Diaz and directs the Carver Project, a Christian nonprofit that aims to connect university, church, and society.
