Poetry

Audio: Read by the author.

Oh god, the god of rain,
of the oboe d’amore,
why not take my hand?
Why the solitude
you’ve forced on us?
The eyes that look
far away, reflection of the
giant sky in dark pupils.
When will I have time to do
that which I desire,
that which I can’t make
myself do, ever? Sometime,
the god must return and take
my hand, set me to ride
the empty tigers of the plains.

Cammy Thomas’s poetry collections are Inscriptions and Cathedral of Wish (both from Four Way). The latter received the Norma Farber First Book Award. A Ragdale Foundation fellowship helped her complete Inscriptions.
