The Glen offers a singular week-long creative and spiritual experience designed to help you develop your artistic practice and expand your community of fellow writers, makers, and seekers wrestling with central questions of art, faith, and meaning. In morning workshops and seminars, you join a small cohort in your chosen genre and enjoy dedicated instruction from a world-class faculty member. Our faculty members include a diverse range of accomplished writers and artists, and experienced teachers.
The Glen community includes writers, visual artists, thinkers, and art-lovers of all ages and experience levels—united by their interest in art and faith, a curious and serious commitment to their craft, and a desire to meet others from around the world who share their convictions, longings, and challenges.
Every attendee at the Glen has access to:
- An immersive morning class. You’ll choose one class for the week, participating in 5 weekday sessions that meet from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Morning classes are kept small, so you develop close ties and dive deep into your chosen subject. For many attendees, their immersive morning cohort is the heart of the Glen experience. (If you prefer having mornings free to write, paint, hike, rest, or explore, choose the retreat option instead. Also available: a retreat guide to help you develop a plan for your work and address creative challenges if you so desire.)
- Weekday afternoon and evening programming, including readings, interviews, craft talks, and more offered by our illustrious faculty, open mic sessions to share your work, contemplative prayer, and free time for rest, connection, or local excursions. These sessions are offered to the entire Glen community, allowing you to meet and mingle with friends enrolled in other morning classes.
- The gorgeous San Diego summer. The Glen is held in downtown San Diego on the University of San Diego campus. With temperatures typically varying between 65 and 75 degrees, San Diego promises to be a welcome retreat for us, and the campus is gorgeous! Whether you’re an outdoor-loving writer craving quiet and peace, or an active extrovert seeking the benefits of an urban location, there's something for everyone!
- Optional housing and meal plans to make your week convenient and all our programming easily accessible.
