Artist Statement: My photographs carry a specifically American subtext and consider the historical, social, and political times through the landscapes, homes, and people who live there; they are about humanity, memory, loss, and hope. I am Conway Professor in New Media and Head of the Studio Art Program at Amherst College, and am sheltering at home with my wife, two children, and two cats in Northampton, MA. I have received fellowships and grants from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Aaron Siskind Foundation, and Center- Santa Fe’s Project Development. My work is held in over thirty public collections, and my books include Where We Find Ourselves (Center for American Places, 2006), Pieces of String (Radius Books, 2012), and Elegy (Radius Books, 2016).
