Artist Statement: I direct the photography program at SUNY Buffalo State where I am Assistant Professor. My work often involves institutional collaboration through photographic media and book-making, and deals with ecology, land use, and post-colonial studies. My work has been shown at Garden Gallery (Los Angeles), Rick Wester Fine Art (New York), and George Eastman Museum (Rochester), and my monograph, The Nature of Imitation, was published by Schilt (Amsterdam). I have worked as a photojournalist throughout the Middle East, Central Asia, and former Soviet Union, and my work has appeared in Harper’s, The New York Times, and The New Yorker. I received an MA in Italian Literature and MFA in Visual Arts from Columbia University. I also served as Harnish Visiting Artist at Smith College.
