A sheet of snow slaps in the wind.
We had been watching for days.

Mixes of white from snow and stars
gave glimmer a nuance we could
not name. At night, under covers
and covers, we could still see our breath.

Both cats slept with us, one near each
of our feet. There was still the slight
murmuring I had heard for more
than a week, and it lasted all night.

When light broke through the window,
waking us, we believed in the miracle.
