Interview

Image turned thirty years old this April. As we reflect on what’s ahead, we asked fifteen visual artists and two singer-songwriters to tell us what they learned and how they changed after turning thirty. Click here for the full collection.

My fourth decade was a passage through death to life. So much dimmed and came to a halt. Yet by the end, I stepped out and entered the next decade blinking and taking my bearings. It’s possible I will look back on my thirties as my most transformative passage.

Natalie Settles. “Elder”, 2017. Etched glass. 15 x 22¼ x 22¼ feet.
